Extra Bus Services Support Fishermans Bend Growth
More than 900 additional services are coming across two major bus routes linking Melbourne’s CBD and Fishermans Bend, improving access to this growing inner-city precinct.
The changes will deliver more frequent public transport services and better infrastructure to support development within the precinct, which is Australia’s largest urban renewal project spanning over 480 hectares.
From 30 October, weekday services will more than double across Routes 235 and 237, targeting a turn-up-and-go 10 min frequency across the day on weekdays, which connect Fishermans Bend with key CBD destinations including Southern Cross Station.
Combined, the weekday services will depart approximately every five minutes from Southern Cross Station.
Bus stops will also be improved on Salmon Street to complement the first stage of redevelopment at the General Motors Site and the opening of the University of Melbourne’s new engineering and design campus. Bus operations at Southern Cross will also be improved.
The new services are part of Victoria's Bus Plan, delivering a modern, productive, environmentally sustainable bus network that increases the number of people who choose buses to get where they need to go.
Further details on the extra services will be released in coming months before they begin later this year.
